IDRS scoring and South Asian risk stratification
The Indian Diabetes Risk Score and its predictive value across urban and rural cohorts. Where DiaCare's risk scanner adapts the standard IDRS frame.
The Indian Diabetes Risk Score (IDRS) is a validated, simple tool for stratifying diabetes risk in South Asian populations.
The four IDRS variables
- Age
- Abdominal obesity (waist circumference)
- Physical activity level
- Family history of diabetes
Score interpretation
IDRS thresholds split the population into low, moderate, and high risk. DiaCare’s risk scanner uses IDRS framing when asked — it walks the user through the four variables one at a time and outputs the score with plain-language interpretation.
Open question
How much can a conversational AI reduce the friction of risk screening among Indians who would never visit a doctor for "just feeling tired"? This is an active question for the Public Health team.
